Obituary of Tecolia Salters
Tecolia (Briggs) Salters, age 102, of Atco, NJ, passed away on Sunday March 3, 2019. She was born on June 25, 1916 in Lyman, South Carolina to Lilly Bell and Elijah Briggs. She had 2 sisters and 3 brothers.
In April of 1938, she married Mr. Emanuel O. Salters. Shortly after, the family moved to Philadelphia, where Mr. Salters established a TV/Radio repair business, and Tecolia become a licensed beautician. She soon became a part of the rapidly growing repair business and took on the role of sales and repair order.
As a young girl, Tecolia was considered to be one of the fastest “cotton pickers” in all of South Carolina. In 1959, the family moved to Atco, NJ, where they purchased a 5-acre farm, and once again, she was the fastest picker of vegetables in the family. She was best known for her flower decorations along the side of the road. Her last job was as a matron at Sterling High School in Somerdale, NJ.
Tecolia leaves behind a son, Emanuel O. Salters, Jr.; grandchildren Janeen Banks, Jermaine Jackson, Tiffany and Stephanie Salters, and many great grandchildren. Everyone that knew her loved her dearly. They called her “Ms. T.”
Viewing will be held on Thursday March 7, 2019 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the Leroy P. Wooster Funeral Home and Crematory, 441 White Horse Pike, Atco, NJ. A homegoing service will begin at 11:00 am.
