Wayne A. Kitchen

May 19, 1944 — March 25, 2020

Wayne A. Kitchen (Porky), age 75 of Folsom, NJ, passed away suddenly on March 25, 2020. Wayne is predeceased by his mother, Marie Kitchen. He is survived by the “love of his life”, his wife, Sandy Metzger, his daughters, Dawn Delorenzo of Berlin, Dorene West (George) of Waterford, Shelli Berenato (Joseph) of Hammonton, his brother Douglas Kitchen (Melodie) of Selkirk, Canada, his niece January and nephew Travis. He is also survived by his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Anthony (Maria), Krista, Luca, Maria, Gavin, Jack and Trevor as well as his great grandchildren, Everett and Carter. Originally from Selkirk, Manitoba, Canada, Wayne (Porky) was an avid hockey fan. He started playing in his teens for the Manitoba Hockey League, followed by St Bonifice Canadiens. From there he came to the United States in the late 60’s to play for the Long Island Ducks followed by the Jersey Devils as their Left Wing. He was the first managing player of that era. His knowledge and passion for the game was real but if you asked him what his legacy was he would stand up straight and proudly, decisively tell you his family. That is what mattered most to him. He was a true family man. His favorite pastime was attending every game and activity involving his grandchildren whether it was five minutes or two hours away. He enjoyed playing cards, a board game or just having a conversation with them and he loved to make them laugh. Family was his priority so he was present, always. He will always be remembered for his devotion to his family, unforgettable humor, magnetic personality and big heart. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Type 1 Diabetes at JDRF.org A public service will be held as a later date. Cremation was held privately.
