Thomas Howard Anning

October 31, 1936 — April 8, 2023

Peacefully, on Saturday April 8, 2023, surrounded by loved ones, Thomas H. Anning, age 86 of Williamstown NJ, formerly of Atco NJ, went to heaven to join his beloved wife Ada May Anning (Barnes). He is survived by his brother Harold (Sonny) Anning of Virginia and is predeceased by his brother David Anning of Atco. Tom is also survived by his first generation nephews Johnny, Ricky, David, Dell and Glen, and by many second and third generation nieces and nephews. His neighbors of 32 years, Hope and Mike Dowd and their children, became family to Tom and Ada.

Tom served in the United States Armed Forces in the National Guard. He was a member of the Pitman Golf Course and had a love for golfing that even the heat could not keep him away from. He even accomplished a hole in one! In his 80’s Tom found a love for hiking and kayaking with his family. He even hiked a 17-mile section of the Batona Trail at 82 years old! Anyone who lived in Atco would remember Tom from the Anning’s 5 & 10 store on Atco Ave. He was a longtime member of the Atco United Methodist Church. After retirement he enjoyed being a bus driver. He always said his favorite kids were “the bad kids” who would never give him any trouble. In his younger days he had a love for flying. He had his pilots license and owned his own plane. He and Ada enjoyed plays, movies and many adventures. He had many hobbies including Friday night Bingo at the Elm Fire Company, visiting the casinos, walking 5 miles every day, driving around in his car because he didn’t like to sit still and flying kites. He could be found at his nieces and nephews soccer games, ball games, band competitions, tennis matches, and whatever sport or event they were playing in. He never missed a Memorial Day parade down Atco Ave and enjoyed visiting Wildwood with family. Tuesday family nights with dinner and NCIS episodes or cowboy shows will not be the same without him. We know he is now enjoying adventures with Ada May in the most peaceful life.
