It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sonia Arora, age 48, who left us much too early on July 6, 2024.
Born on August 16, 1975, Sonia was a cherished daughter of Ram and Urmil Arora, sister to Junish, sister-in-law to Rachna, and aunt to Siona and Simrin.
Sonia was a remarkable individual known for her intensity, passion, and intelligence. She pursued her education with zeal, earning her degrees in Anthropology and Sociology from Columbia University.
Sonia had a zest for language that was evident in her passion and talent for poetry. She won four major prizes and publications in poetry and was the 2019 Langdon Review Writer-in-Residence. She was an avid cook, finding joy in the different culinary traditions.
Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will always remember her warmth, generosity, and the beautiful spirit she brought into their lives. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the South Asian Total Health Initiative (SATHI) at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Donations may be made to the Rutgers University Foundation, P.O. Box 193, New Brunswick, NJ 08903-0193. Please write SATHI on the memo line.
Bhajans to honor Sonia's life will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the India Temple Association (Berlin Hindu Temple), 25 E. Taunton Ave, Berlin, NJ 08009. We invite all who knew and loved Sonia to join us at the Bhajans in celebrating her life.
