Sharadchandra G. Patel, Ph.D. of Edison, New Jersey, passed away at the age of 81 on May 1, 2020 after a brief Illness. He was born in Dar-es-Salaam to his parents Gordhanbhai and Gangaben Patel. Sharadchandra was the youngest of 6 children. Sharadchandra attended M.S. University in Vadodara where he studied tirelessly to complete his Undergraduate and Doctorate degrees in Geology. He was a respected professor at the same university for many years where he influenced a generation of students. During this time, Sharadchandra married his beloved wife Sudhaben in and raised three children Rajesh, Janki, and Kirti. In 1985, Sharadchandra and Sudhaben emigrated to the United States, sacrificing a successful career and well-established life to ensure a better future for their children. He continued his career for another 22 years as a chemist at Sidmak/Barr Pharmaceuticals. During that time, the family happily grew with the addition of his daughter-in-law Trupti and sons-in-law Piyush and Hemant. Shortly after they were blessed with 3 beautiful grandchildren, Rujuta, Rusheen, and Shreyul, who were their pride and joy. After his retirement, Sharadchandra kept busy lovingly caring for his late wife Sudhaben and helped nurture their grandchildren. He tirelessly provided constant care as she went through an extended illness. At the same time, he was a source of love, support and friendship to Rujuta, Rusheen, and Shreyul. Sharadchandra was a religious man and always began each day with his morning prayers. He enjoyed watching professional sports and he loved entertaining people and maintaining relationships all over the world. Professionally and personally, Sharadchandra positively influenced the lives of countless people over the years. He got along with people of all ages and was a “Jack of all Trades” who was willing to do anything and everything for anybody. His quiet demeanor and wry sense of humor ensured his company was always appreciated. Sharadchandra lived a full life and was active until he was struck down by a recent illness. He will be remembered for his unselfishness, his accomplishments, his positive attitude, his love of family and friends, and his joy for life. He was a pillar of strength for his family, friends, students and colleagues. He will be greatly missed.
