Seema Jena Singh

Dr. Seema Jena Singh passed away on August 25th, 2023, at the age of 63 surrounded by her loved ones. She was a warrior and battled cancer till the very end. Seema was a phenomenal woman. A daughter adored by her parents, a devoted wife, an affectionate and fiercely protective mother, and a deeply adoring and doting grandmother.

A highly talented and accomplished woman from a young age, Dr. Jena received a double promotion from her high school and became one of the youngest students to be accepted to Stella Maris College in Madras, India where she received her Bachelor’s degree in English literature. She went on to complete her Master’s in Philosophy and Doctorate in Philosophy in English Literature after being awarded the Commonwealth Scholarship from Lancaster University, UK. She continued to start the first South Asian magazine for BBC as the Chief Editor of Daskhat. Dr. Jena has authored many books and short stories in feminism and colonialism. Her passion for arts and theatre also led her to write plays in the UK, as well as pursue further education at the New York Film Academy.

According to Dr. Jena “variety is the spice of life” whether it was learning about different cultures, poetry, fashion, cricket, or theater. She always took care of her family and gave them her blessings to live a healthy and happy life without any fears, inhibitions, or hesitations. She will always remain in our hearts as a colorful, vibrant, fragrant flower in our life spreading love, joy and giving us strength to keep going.

A viewing and Puja will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at 4:00 PM, at LeRoy P. Wooster Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 441 White Horse Pike, Atco, NJ 08004. Cremation will follow.
