She leaves behind her sister, Patricia Grady and brother, James Niemann and many loving nieces, nephews and host of extended family and dear friends.
After graduating from St. Theresa’s Catholic High School in Decatur, IL she moved to Chicago to study Fashion Illustration at the Ray Vogue Academy of Fine Arts. In 1963 she moved to Cherry Hill, NJ and worked as a fashion illustrator and commercial artist for Reuben Donnelly in Philadelphia. She met her husband at the Haddonfield Community Theater. He was acting in the shows and she worked on set design and making costumes. After they were married, they bought their home in Gibbsboro, NJ where Ruthann lived up until her death.
Known for her artistic talent, she was sketching and painting from a young age and throughout her life she continued to study oil and water color. Art was her true passion and she enjoyed decorative painting which included murals for a Children’s Day Care as well as nursery walls and even created custom pieces at a local pottery studio.
The Catholic Church played an important part in her upbringing and her day-to-day life. She had a special devotion to The Blessed Mother, sang in the church choir, and was an active member in several parish groups and ministries. Her adventurous spirit is what led her to become a world traveler. Ruthann was always up for going anywhere. In 2024 she completed two “bucket-list” trips which included travelling to Italy with her daughters in April and in September a church Pilgrimage to Portugal, Spain, and France.
Ruthann loved her hot tea and playing board games and cards with her friends and family. Her hobbies included baking, sewing, visiting art museums, and attending shows on Broadway and at local theaters. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she cheered them on at every track and cross country meet, softball, soccer, and basketball game, choir concerts and graduations. Her greatest love was spending time with her family and friends regardless of the occasion. She especially enjoyed hosting an annual July 4th party at her home.
