Richard “Snookie” Jones passed away at the age of 80 on Tuesday March 1, 2022 at home surrounded by his wife and children. He was the loving husband of Cora H. Jones for 44 years. Snookie was born in Miami, FL on September 1, 1941. The family moved to Philadelphia when he was young. Snookie graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Air Force as an air policeman from Nov. 1958 until he was honorably discharged in Oct. 1962. He sang with the group The Five Sharps. Music was a passion for Snookie. He entered the music industry in 1978, beginning with the Schwartz brothers. A year later, Snookie was employed with RCA Records, followed by Polygram Records and Giant Records. Snookie received numerous awards and plaques during his 40 years in the industry. Snookie had a big smile, winning personality, was a go-getter and purpose driven. He never hesitated to pass his knowledge on to the next generation because that was important to him. Snookie is survived by his wife Cora; his 3 children: sons Kevin and Richard, daughter Renata; 5 grandchildren: Kevin, Bri’yon, Alexis, Ke’Vonne and Leia; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers Simeon Jr., Benjamin and his wife Mabel, Aaron, Wayman and his wife Roslyn; 7 sisters-in-law: Wanda, Ramona, Noreen, Theresa, Vivian, Nancy and Jennifer; 3 brothers-in-law: Jeffrey, John Leslie and wife Maria and Norman. He was predeceased by his brothers Dell and Robert; sister-in-law Wendy; father Simeon Sr.; mother Ellen; sisters-in-law: Carol, Diane and Marsha, mother-in-law Cartheida and father-in-law John. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews, as well as many, many friends with special acknowledgement to his dear friends Kathy DiGiorgio and Jerry Wells. May you all know how much you were loved. Until we all meet again at heaven’s great table. I thought of you today, but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday and days before that too. I think of you in silence, I often speak your name. All I have are memories and your picture in a frame. Your memory is a keepsake from which I’ll never part. God has you in His arms, I have you in my heart. With much sorrow and through God’s grace, we release him into the Lord’s open arms, The Jones Family. Cremation will be held privately.
