Mary J. Metro

Mary J. Metro (nee Iannacone) of Westville, NJ, beloved wife, cherished sister, proud mother, devoted grandmother, and loyal friend passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at the age of 72. Faith, family and friends fueled Mary’s existence. She loved her family deeply. Her husband, children and grandchildren were her world. Her kind and loving nature extended her family beyond convention – she was a mom to the Saxer family, especially Clay, and more like a sister to her cousin and lifelong friend, Rosemary Small. Her resilience and strong spirituality sustained her through life’s trials – a son, John, taken too soon that blessed her with the opportunity to provide a loving home to his children; and more recently, the loss of Sonny, the love of her life. Mary loved to cook, and was always at the stove ready to prepare a favorite meal to show her love and affection. An avid animal lover, Mary shared her home with many furry friends over the years, and they brought each other much comfort. When she was not with her family, she enjoyed trips to the casino with her Sister Nancy, continuing the tradition started by their Mom, Daphne; and the bingo bus – and to the “bingo twins” passes on her gift of good luck. Mary loved completely and forgave quickly. She believed that carrying around the burden of the past only made you weary and she taught us, by example, to keep only the lessons and the love of life’s experiences. Mary will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. Mary is predeceased by her husband Sonny Metro and her son, John Walls. She is survived by her children, Deborah DeLeon of Williamstown, NJ, David Hall of Westville, NJ, her grandchildren, Nicholas Walls (Amber), Daniel Walls and Breanna Walls, her brother, Bob Iannacone and her sister, Nancy Iannacone. Due to the current pandemic, cremation will be private.
