Mark Batten

December 18, 1955 — March 30, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we remember Mark Batten, who left us peacefully at the age of 69 on March 30, 2025, at his home in Hammonton, NJ. Mark's journey began on December 18, 1955, in San Bernardino, CA, born to Edward Francis Batten and Margaret Mary Batten (nee Lacey), who loved him deeply as their only child.

Mark's early education took place at Assumption School in Atco, NJ, and Edgewood High School. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving his country in Vietnam from 1971 to 1973. After his service, he dedicated himself to becoming a skilled roofing and siding specialist, later expanding his expertise into various construction trades. Later in his life, Mark was a proud employee of OPEX Corporation for 11 years in the shipping department before embarking on his entrepreneurial journey, offering home improvement services to so many people in the South Jersey community.

On January 3, 2007, Mark married his loving wife, Lori, at FCC Church in Mt. Laurel, NJ. Their bond, which began in 1992, flourished as they welcomed their only child, Felicia, who he always acknowledged as his greatest achievement. Mark's love and generosity was not just for those who shared the same blood, as he was a supportive father-figure to two other women over the years, Tara Jones and Susie Payne. Through his relationship with Lori, Mark gained a large extended family that welcomed him with open arms, enriching his life with love and support.

His compassionate heart extended not only to people but also to animals. Throughout his life, he welcomed a menagerie of pets into his home with a big smile. His favorite canine companion, Kayla, certainly stands beside him now.

Mark's spirit shined brightest during the summers spent in the Wildwoods and Cape May, making the locations rich in family traditions. Whether it was a long weekend getaway or a day spent surf fishing, Mark found joy in every moment spent by the shore. His enthusiasm for life was mirrored in his love of motorcycling, often riding alongside Lori, embracing the open road on his Harley.

Mark was a true pillar of his community, known for his unwavering willingness to lend a hand and share his own experiences. As follower of Christ, mentor, and active member of church groups, he exemplified the belief that recovery from addiction is possible, inspiring countless individuals and creating lasting, meaningful friendships along the way.

Mark is survived by his devoted wife, Lori Batten; his beloved daughter, Felicia Batten; and his son-in-law, Joshua Green. He joins his parents, Edward and Margaret Batten, in eternal rest.
