Lucia D. Jackson

February 3, 1954 — December 22, 2024

Lucia D. Jackson, lovingly known as Luci, (nee Hounos), age 70 of Atco, NJ, passed away on December 22, 2024 at home surrounded by her loving family.

She is predeceased by her parents, Dimofanos and Elsie (nee Killian) Hounos and siblings, Dolores Carr, Roberta O’Connor, Florence Craig, John Craig, Geraldine Sherman.

Luci is survived by her beloved husband, Jay T. Jackson; children, Sabrina Sabella (Frank) and Michael T. Jackson (Lauren); grandchildren, Julia, Jay, Ariana, Aiden, AJ, and Kate; cousin, Chrys; nephew, Johnny; and many loving in laws, nieces and nephews, and extended family.

Luci was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. In her youth, she spent countless hours daydreaming and exploring wooded areas near her home and attending matinees. As the youngest of six children, she spent a lot of her time with her many nieces, nephews and cousins. Throughout the entirety of her life, she remained exceptionally close to her nephew John.

At 16, her family relocated to Stratford, NJ, where she met her lifelong friends with whom she has shared many great memories. One that she recalled quite frequently was going to Dancette with her friends where she would dance the night away.

After graduating high school, Luci worked as a secretary at Camden County Vocational Technical school. It was then that Luci met the love of her life, Jay, with whom she was married to for 50 years. Luci placed great emphasis on her family throughout her entire life and was an active participant in her children and grandchildren’s lives.

She volunteered her time quite often, whether it was to help a friend or family member in need. She volunteered for the Somerdale PTA the entirety of the time her children were there as well as Women Against Rape. She lobbied in NJ on behalf of children so that victims of abuse did not have to face the accused in court. She spent countless hours on Friday evenings cooking her infamous sausage and peppers that she would sell while managing the concession stand for the Magnolia Rams football organization during her many years there.

With her spirit of helping others guiding her, Luci chose a career as a real estate agent. She absolutely loved helping people find their home, often going out of her way to make miracles happen. She was the go-to for family and friends to find a home. She holds accolades as a Board Member and past President in the Camden County and New Jersey Board of Realtors. Many of the connections she made with people lasted far beyond their home purchase.

She loved making others happy and one of the ways she fostered this was through cooking. She has shared so many loving memories with her family in the kitchen. She will be remembered for the holiday spread she would cultivate each year during the annual Jackson holiday open house and her inability to write down an accurate recipe. Her love of cooking would lead to “gentle” suggestions and opinions about the cooking of others. She was particularly fond of interjecting her loving recommendations to her favorite son in law, Frank, every time he would cook any meal, but especially Christmas Eve.

In 2009, Luci and Jay built their dream home and relocated to Atco, NJ. Memories of summers in the pool, watching the Eagles, baking cookies, making Baklava annually with cousin Chrys and Antonia, holidays and sleepovers will remain for her family.

Luci loved to travel and experience new things. She traveled to New Orleans, San Francisco and Washington, DC for conferences. She went to Mexico, the Caribbean, Vegas and countless others for time with her love. She spent Christmas with her family in Vermont. She experienced the first trip to Disney for every one of her grandchildren and went on countless trips and vacations with her children and their families and one of her most memorable was her final trip to Greece with her beloved daughter in law, Lauren.

Her little ducklings, Julia, Jay, Ariana, Aiden, AJ and Kate, brought her the greatest joy. Her presence in their lives was beyond measure. “Gram” as she was lovingly called by her grandchildren, intwined herself in their lives. She attended school and sporting events. She hosted sleepovers - sometimes outdoors - filled with chompers, dancing to songs they chose, ice cream for breakfast among many other shared memories. She relished the stories they shared and supported them in every endeavor.

She was up for anything at a moment’s notice. A dinner with friends, a sleepover with her grandchildren, trying a new restaurant, watching a movie. If she was asked or invited, she showed up.

She often showed up when she wasn’t invited or asked, having an innate sense of knowing when someone needed a talk, a hug or simply just another person to be there.

Luci fought like hell during the past three years of her life after being diagnosed with Multiple System Atrophy to be present in the moment. She continued to offer love and guidance and sometimes a reality check to those around her whether they wanted it or not.

Luci was a caring bright light, with a sharp wit and brutal honesty. To know her was to love her…. “Everyone loves Luci” was the saying…and everyone always will.
