Lalita M. Thakur

May 23, 1940 — June 23, 2020

Lalita Madhukar Thakur, BA, B.Ed, , our beloved and amazing wife, mother, and grandmother passed away from complications following cardiac surgery, on June 23, 2020. She lived a wonderful life until the age of 80. Lalita is survived by her husband Madhukar (Mathew) L. Thakur, Ph.D., daughter Netra Thakur Jagannath, MD, MPH, son-in-law Sanjay Jagannath, MD, grandsons Nikhil and Dillan Jagannath, son Neil Thakur, Ph.D. and daughter-in-law Jennifer Frey, Ph.D., her brothers-in-law Dilip Thakur and Narayan Patil, and sister-in-law Gulab Vartak, as well as many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. Lalita was born in India and graduated from the University of Bombay and SNDT Women’s University. She taught Marathi and Sanskrit to high school students in Bordi. She married Madhukar on March 10, 1966 and they lived in Mumbai for several months, where Lalita taught languages and mathematics. Lalita and Madhukar wanted to travel the world so they started by moving to London UK in 1967. It was there that she took on the challenge of taking care of two young children and supporting Madhukar in his career. She also held a number of jobs, including working in a Gillette factory. They moved to Connecticut in 1977, and Lalita studied computer programming at Quinnipiac college and worked as a part time computer operator at Yale University. They moved to Cherry Hill, New Jersey in 1983. Lalita realized her goal to travel the world, visiting every continent except Antarctica, often in the company of her family and friends. She was an accomplished cook and gifted hostess. She loved to shop and talk and had friends all over the world. She will be remembered for her vivacity, humor and strength. She will be missed. A funeral for immediate family only will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2020. A livestream webcast of the services will be available at 9:00 am on Saturday at https://client.tribucast.com/tcid/35188056 . Our family invites you to express condolences at the following link: www.lpwoosterfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations on her behalf to Lalita’s favorite charity, St. Jude’s hospital https://bit.ly/2zZqgXk. We will plan for a joyous “Lalita- worthy” celebration of life once we can all safely gather together.
