June B. Nelson, age 93, of Haddon Township, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 9th, 2022 at her home with her two sons by her side. June was the beloved wife of the late Charles Isaac Nelson. June was the daughter of Anthony Bove and Philomena “Mini” Zarrella. Dear sister to the late Albert and Mickey Bove, Rosemarie (Val) Raubertas, and Doris (Farra) Read. June is survived by her beloved sons, David A. (Kathy) Nelson of Haddon Township and Kenneth J. (Alicia) Nelson of Cedarbrook. Loving grandmother of Chad, Brian, Steven, Sara, and Emily Nelson. June is also survived by many nieces and nephews. June was an athletic person; she played High School field hockey, in addition to being a State Championship High School basketball player, professional ice skater, avid tennis and swimming enthusiast. Mom was an “outdoor” kind of girl. She could be found cutting the grass or gardening well into her late 80’s and she always had time for the beach. She played bridge with her girlfriends every Wednesday night through the late 70’s and mid 80’s. She was never one to stand still for too long! She made her own clothes, loved to cook, and loved the Italian way of life, canning tomatoes, or fruit. However, her biggest love were her children, grandchildren, and family. She was so proud of all her grandkids. She could be seen in the football stadium one day, to the wrestling gym as a grappling granny, to the swimming pool or back out to the field hockey or softball fields. As mom aged, she traveled with her family and friends. June was a career woman; she worked 42 years at University of Penn. She started as an ER nurse and then expanded her expertise throughout her tenure. June worked on many significant medical research grants. During her research career, her findings became the building blocks for others to successfully interpret and expand on their discoveries. To their credit, they published many of her findings as experts in their field. After retirement, Mom volunteered at Lady of Lourdes, racking up over 1800 hours of service. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 15th, 2022, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at LeRoy P. Wooster Funeral Home and Crematory, 441 White Horse Pike, Atco, NJ. A funeral service will begin at 11:00am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, 119 North RT 73, Cedar Brook, NJ.
