Josephine E. Lang (nee Mather), age 86 years, of Hammonton, NJ, passed away on
12/28/2024. She is predeceased by her parents Elwood E. Mather and Edna M. Mather (nee Crouse), husband Aubrey C. Lang, Jr., siblings Margaret V. Einolf, Elwood E. Mather, Claire E. Mather, Thomas L. Mather, Earl L. Mather, David R. Mather, Carolyn E. Edwards and grandson Michael R. Lang.
She is survived by sister Charlene W. Weibking, children Aubrey C. Lang III (Jane), David S.
Lang (Lori), Denise E. Latimer (Jim), and Sharon L. Haley (John), grandchildren Stephen Lang (Tara), Daniel Lang (Amanda), Matthew Lang (Kristin), Sara McGowan (Brian), Jason Lang (Jackie), James Latimer, David Latimer, Megan Lombardo (Vincent), Mathew Haley (Amaris), Samantha Montag (Brady), and 13 great-grandchildren.
Josephine was the fifth born of nine children to Elwood and Edna Mather. She was raised in
Violetville, MD, a little village just outside of Baltimore. She loved her many friends and family and always had pleasant memories of Joh’s Farm, the apple orchards, the blue and yellow dams, dancing, and going to church.
Josephine was a graduate of Western High School for girls in Baltimore, MD. She worked
briefly in secretarial and accounting jobs after graduation. In the fall of 1958 she met the love of her life, Aubrey C. Lang, Jr. (Jerry) on a triple date at a skating rink. It was love at first sight and they were married in less than a year on 8/8/1959. Within six years they had four children: Carl, David, Denise and Sharon. She discovered her true passion in being a wife and a mother. She was truly the best. They lived in Hanover, MD and later moved to the eastern shore of Maryland. Eventually they moved to New Jersey to be closer to Jerry’s job. She found joy in serving in numerous church ministries through many years and later in being a part time school aide, as well as a grandmother, and a great grandmother. There were many happy family times especially during the holidays when she would enjoy hosting and cooking special meals.
After retirement, Jo enjoyed spending more time with Jerry, eating out, and taking vacations together. Jerry loved to drive and Jo loved to ride. They traveled up and down the east coast. Sometimes they vacationed with their longtime friends, Bruce and Rita Smith and made many happy memories together. They later moved to Elmtowne, a retirement community in Hammonton, NJ.
Josephine’s life was filled with love, hard work, happiness, laughter, tears, joys, and sorrows. Her entire family and the love they have is the legacy she leaves. But the most important part of Jo’s life was her faith in God and her relationship with Jesus. She loved to share her faith with others. She knew that she was saved and going to Heaven. She was not afraid to die, but was looking forward to her life eternally with Jesus.
Romans 10:9-10 KJV
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that
God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto
righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
John 3:16 KJV
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in
him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
