John Michael Straub

November 17, 1943 — June 26, 2022

John Michael “Jack” Straub, 78 of Berlin, NJ, passed peacefully on June 26 th , 2022 in the vicinity of his son and family in NC.  He is predeceased by his parents John F. and Marian Straub.  Jack is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lynda (nee Wells), and their son Drew (Jennifer) and grandchildren Lydia and Thatcher. Jack is the oldest of 8 children and is survived by brothers Kenneth (Carol), David, Robert (Diane), William, and Mark (Patricia) along with sisters Elaine Blair (Alan) and Loretta Gazzara (Charles) in addition to many nieces and nephews.

Jack’s professional life began after graduating from Drexel University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering and he remained true to his formal education by retaining his membership in IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). He did his co-op with NAFEC (National Aviation Facilities Experimental Center) and then his career started with NASA.  Jack touched many industries over 55 years but remained true to engineering, technology, and operation process as a journeyman sales, marketing, and business consultant. He traveled frequently and loved being “on the road” but found time to be a good steward of his community by serving on the school board for a decade, a Rotarian for a number of years, being appointed to various Borough committees, and remained active in politics, church boards, and local history.  With over 50 years committed to the local Methodist community, he served on various boards for both Berlin and Tansboro Methodist churches.   Jack had several interests throughout his life; from hunting and fishing, to stamp and coin collecting.  He led a fascinating life that, on the outside, seemed mysterious but was altogether quite unique but benign. He was a delegate to the 1980 Republican Convention which nominated Ronald Reagan and was an integral fund raiser for the successful election of Governor Thomas Kean.  Never one to not be active, he did shed a great deal of personal and professional interests in the last couple years as he enjoyed becoming a loving grandfather.
