John Francis Nye, Sr. lovingly known as Jack, passed away on Monday, February 10th, 2025, at the age of 85. Born and raised in the Buffalo, NY area, Jack joined the U.S. NAVY where he traveled the world as an Aircrewman from 1957 - 1966. He was fortunate to have missions in the Mediterranean, which he recalled as a wonderful time in his life. As he served his country, he enjoyed his visits to Spain, Greece and Malta among many other places. His final years of service brought him back to the U.S. to stations in Key West. FL. Knoxville, TN and Brunswick, Maine. During the midst of his time in the service, he met and married his (ex) wife, Alma near McGuire Air Force Base.
Upon his discharge, they moved to South Jersey and raised their family. He worked at Air Products and Chemicals for 47 years where he installed and maintained cryogenic systems. He started in the Camden, NJ plant and relocated to the Lancaster, PA plant later on. He loved his job and made many lifelong relationships with his coworkers. He was a mentor to some and to this day they joke "it's the Nye way or the highway'" as he taught many who still work there.
Jack was a wealth of knowledge when it came to trivia, history. science and geography. He loved watching Jeopardy and could give the players a run for their money. He knew how to fix or repair just about anything mechanical. He was always willing to lend a hand or give you advice on what you need to do to be up and running again.
He had a passion for motorcycles, especially Harleys. He built a 1953 Panhead in his basement from a pile of parts acquired from various sources and swap meets. At that time in his life, he was known as "Panhead Jack”. In later years, he had numerous HD models and enjoyed traveling all over the country. He visited all 48 United States by riding on his bike. He was an inspiration to others, including his daughter, Alma, who went on most of the cross-country trips with him. His eyes would sparkle at the thought of heading to Sturgis, SD for the bike rally and would plan the trips to the National Parks in the surrounding states. He treasured the memories of time spent with all of his traveling companions over the years and spoke of them often.
Known as a generous. kind and loving man with a quick wit and great stories, he will be truly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his children, Alma Dawson (Lee), and John “Jack” Nye, Jr. (Barb), former spouse and close friend, Alma Dobbs, siblings Robert Nye (Joanne). Lewis Nye (Martha) and William Nye, his grandchildren, Jack Nye (Bobbi-Jene), Justine Cilona, Jade Nye, and Jessica Nye (Vince). Great grandchildren Jack, Mason, Hadley, Wyatt and Loralei. Also, numerous nieces and nephews.
