James Rogers

September 26, 1942 — March 22, 2025

Rogers, James V. on March 22, 2025.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James V. Rogers, 82. Jim died peacefully in his sleep at Samaritan Hospice in Voohees, NJ.

Jim was born on September 26, 1942 and he grew up on Godfrey Avenue in Philadelphia. Growing up, Jim was an Eagle Scout, and caddied at the local golf course. He worked his way through school and earned his Associates degree, also completing Dale Carnegie sales training. A great dancer, Jim was a regular on American Bandstand in the 1960s.

Jim was hard-working and took pride in providing for his large family. He was a certified Gemologist and a respected jeweler throughout his long career, including many years at Bailey, Banks & Biddle, and up until his retirement from Kronenberger Jewelers in 2010. In his spare time, he enjoyed the ups and downs of being a dedicated Philadelphia sports fan -- especially the Eagles, the Phillies, and the Flyers -- and attended Phillies games several times over the years with his children. He enjoyed many Eagles games at his daughter Kate's home each season. He was a music lover and instilled his love of music and musical theater in his children.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife Shirley Rogers, with whom he enjoyed many happy years together. He is also survived by his former wife Joan (nee Kuriger), his sister Betty Ann Parker (Rob), his children: Lisa Startzel (Raymond), Colleen Swift (Timothy), Kathleen Moore (Joseph), Joanne Waters (John), James Rogers (Amy), Martin Rogers (Amy), Tim Legore (Stacey), & Michelle Mace (Brad). Beloved Pop Pop to: Richie, Brianna, Zachary, Blaise, Bobby, Jack, Jessica, Stephanie, Marshall, Sarah, Wren, Trevor, Brenna, Kaleigh, Rachel & Emily. Jim was predeceased by his wife Florence (nee Broll), his brother Harry Rogers, and his son Paul Katona.

When his children were young, Dad's sense of duty and fun was a lesson and a comfort to us all. He taught us that nearly every sentence led to a song, and thoroughly enjoyed listening to, and singing with, his children. He ingrained in us the importance of loving our family, especially our siblings.

Dad, we will miss you immensely, and will always remember your warmth, your keen blue glance, your wry laugh, your love, and your joy and pride in your children's and grandchildren's successes.

Jim will be buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Montgomery County, PA, near his wife Florence's grave. Services will be private. His family is grateful for well-wishes and prayers.
