Chiumento, James M., age 76. Sunrise March 8, 1948, Sunset March 23, 2024. Jim was born in Camden, NJ, grew up in Atco and lived most of his adult life in Hammonton. He attended St. Joseph’s High and was a member of the class of 1966. Jim graduated from Glassboro State College where he received his BA in Education, specializing in Social Studies.
Jim loved teaching high school and woke up each morning happy to begin his day at Overbrook in Pine Hill where he taught for 34 years.
In high school, Jim was an exceptional athlete lettering in varsity football, baseball, and basketball. He was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan and never missed a game. One of the most fulfilling jobs for him was coaching girls softball. Over the course of many years, he coached Hammonton, St. Joseph’s and Overbrook High School where he was affectionately known to the girls on his team as “Coach Chiu.” He was their friend and mentor on and off the field.
In 1971, Jim married Arlene DiMeglio, his high school sweetheart, and they were happily married for 52 years. The loves of his life were his two beautiful daughters Jodi and Jayme. He was the epitome of “girl dad.”
Jim was predeceased by his parents Charles Sr. and Mildred Chiumento and his sister in law Debbie Chiumento.
He is survived by his loving wife Arlene (DiMeglio), his daughters Jodi (Jody Yashin) and Jayme Poalise, his brothers Charles Jr. (Carol) of Cherry Hill and Louis of Voorhees. He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews and extended family.
Funeral services will be private at the request of the family.
