Henry (Hank) Kasper, a World War II Navy Veteran passed away peacefully in his Cedar Brook, NJ home on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at the age of 95. Beloved husband of the late Delma Kasper. Father of Cheri DeSorte (late Joseph) and the late Harry E. James. Grandfather of Joe DeSorte (Debbie Wallace) of Sicklerville, NJ, Cherie DeSorte of Haddon Twp., NJ, Kelly DeSorte (Bert Newton) of Washington Twp., NJ, Todd DeSorte (Rosemary) of Atco, NJ, John A. James (Yvette) of TX. Great Grandfather of Joseph, II, Brandon, Arianna, Shelby, Kelsey, Bert, Santino and Ella Quinn. Great Great Grandfather of Madaleine, Jayson, Maximus and Rhys. Uncle of Connie Marino of CA and Cheryl DelVecchio of NJ. Henry was born on August 28, 1925 in Cooper Hospital in Camden, NJ to his Polish immigrant parents, Stella and Vincent Kasperowicz. The family resided in Runnemede, NJ for 36 years. Henry attended Audubon High School in Audubon, NJ where he was a star center on the basketball team the year they won the championship. He was also a key player on the football team where he played offensive and defensive positions. His love and enthusiasm for sports continued throughout his entire life. His memory for college and pro sports stats was impressive. In 1942, at 17½ years old, Henry enlisted in the Navy with his Mother and Father’s written consent and served patriotically in the Pacific during World War II. At the age of 32, Henry married Delma James and they lived in Cedar Brook, NJ. The dynamic duo enjoyed Big Band music, were enthusiastic jitterbuggers, and spent many weekend evenings dancing the night away into the wee early morning hours. Henry was always the life of the party with his fun loving and spirited personality. He loved to sing, could do it well and would break out into song at any given moment. He also loved horse racing and Saturday afternoon visits to the track with his buddies. Henry was a Union bricklayer out of Local 5 and 7 of NJ. He helped to build Edgewood Regional High School in Winslow Twp., NJ in 1957. He finished his career at Ancora Hospital in Hammonton, NJ where he worked until 1990. Henry was regimented, structured and lived a disciplined lifestyle. He taught his family the importance of good old-fashioned housework using a serious amount of elbow grease and a toothbrush. There were no short cuts. His motto was, if you were going to do a job, do it right! We learned many life lessons from him while he generously offered his love and affection. Henry saw it all in his long, wonderful life and was happy with his journey. He had no regrets. He always said, “I am proud that I was a member of the Greatest Generation.” His viewing will be held on Thursday, August 26th, 9:00 am to 10:30 am with a funeral service to follow at 10:30 am at the LeRoy P.
