Frederick William Schimmel

December 20, 1950 — February 21, 2024

Frederick W. Schimmel, age 73 of Gibbsboro, NJ, passed away on February 21, 2024. He was born to the late William W. and Florence A. (nee Peterson) Schimmel in Brooklyn, NY. Frederick graduated from Newark College of Engineering, presently known as NJIT, in 1972 with a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He was employed as an electrical engineer with General Instruments, Motorola, and Arris, spending 20 years at the Horsham, PA facility. He was also employed previously at Siemons Corporation, North American Phillips, and Gandalf. Fred connected and made friends all over the world from work, and he had several patents. An avid camper with exceptional map reading skills, he met the love of his life, Connie, while camping at Worthington State Forest. Together, Frederick and Connie enjoyed many camping adventures, especially Worthington State Forest and Chincoteague. When not camping, he enjoyed photography, astronomy, and being a member of the West Jersey Rose Society with Connie. Frederick will be deeply missed.


Frederick is predeceased by his parents, William W. and Florence A. Schimmel.


He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Connie I. Schimmel (nee Morris); sons, Robert Schimmel (Kassiani Chalima) and James Schimmel; grandchildren, Tabatha Schimmel, Anna Schimmel, Audrey Schimmel, Daniel Locke, and Iris Locke; and sisters, Lois Mengel (Jay), Leslie Vissage (John), and Susan Schimmel.


Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of LeRoy P. Wooster Funeral Home & Crematory and will be held privately.
