Eugene J. Melfi, Jr.

June 8, 1946 — October 25, 2024

Eugene Melfi passed away on October 25, 2024, in Mt. Holly, NJ after a long 4-year battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Eugene was born on June 8, 1946, in Levittown, Pennsylvania to his late parents Eugene Sr. and Carmela Mildred. When Gene was diagnosed, he had no idea that the symptoms of his disease would be so challenging. He took it day by day and never complained. Gene was a man of strength and proved that every day by pushing through. Gene is survived by his wife of 52 beautiful years, Susan Melfi (Levine), brother-in-law David (Judy), sister-in-law Cindy (Leo), nephew Jake, nieces Alexis (Zachary), Mara, Daria, and great-nephew and nieces Mason, Hadley, Liana and Reagan.

Gene was a proud Army veteran. He enlisted in 1964 and was in the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper. Gene was stationed in Mainz, Germany, which were some of his proudest memories. He always said his easiest jump was the first because he didn’t know what to expect. After serving honorably, Gene worked at CertainTeed Co. for 25 years and OKI Data for 10 years until retirement. All his life,

Gene had a passion for cars and some of his fondest memories were building cars and collecting diecast models. His most recent car he built from the ground up was a 1953 Chevrolet 210, which often wins prizes at local car shows. He was also frequently found riding his Harley, especially on a crisp fall day. He always enjoyed watching old movies, some of his favorites were featuring James Cagney and any musicals. His taste in music varied, but he frequently listened to Frank Sinatra. He loved to sing Doo Wop songs and had a nice voice. Country was on the hit parade as well. In the summer, Gene was often found lounging by the pool and getting tan was a summer event. He always took great pride in the appearance of the house and made sure it was a little oasis for him and Sue. He was a master on the grill and enjoyed entertaining with family and friends. Gene was a proud dog owner, having many Dachshunds and Basset Hounds over the years. Archie, the family Basset mix was a good protector of Gene. He was good company and followed him everywhere, especially in the end, to make sure he was safe. Gene and Susan spent 52 years in love and enjoyed vacationing together, dinners out, going to wineries and car shows, and spending time with family, who he held near and dear to his heart. To know Gene was to love him; he was a well-rounded man and could accomplish anything that he set out to do. His presence will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A viewing will be held on Monday, November 4, 2024 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM and on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM at LeRoy P.
