Ernest R. Rushton, known as Ray to many, passed away on April 21, 2023, just a few days shy of his 96th birthday. Born in Indiana, he was a resident of Stratford, NJ. Ray proudly served in the US Navy during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. Following his service over three conflicts, Ray dedicated 24 years as a careerman in the Navy, serving as Chief Yeoman. Following his retirement from the Navy, he took an administrative position at McLean Trucking for 15 years. An avid gardener, Ray’s yard and garden were his pride and joy. He attended Atco Presbyterian Church for over 20 years. Ray was a renaissance man who liked to cook, keep busy, and help others. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ray will be deeply missed.
Ray is predeceased by his parents, Ernest E. and Myrtle Rushton and siblings, Pearl West, Albert Rushton, James Rushton, and Mary Lewis.
He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 70 years, Vera M. Rushton; son, Gary Rushton (Brenda); grandchildren, Rebekah Storti (Steve) and Angela Crump (Josh); great grandchildren, Nicholas, Roman, Karina, and Eloise; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Atco Presbyterian Church Saturday May 6, 2023. Visiting with the family at 3:00pm, service at 4:00pm. Please join the family after the service downstairs for dinner. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Atco Presbyterian Church, 2259 Atco Ave. Atco, NJ 08004
