Elizabeth Ruth (nee Green) Johnson DuCoin of Atco, NJ passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2022. She was the daughter of John and Edna (Free) Green, Jr, of Collingswood, NJ.
Early in the Second World War, she helped a friend write thank you notes to Air Force Cadets who had donated blood for a family member. Cadet George I. “GI” Johnson wrote back and correspondence continued. They met, married, George completed pilot training and shipped out to the South Pacific. After returning from the war, they started their family: Bruce (Deb) Johnson of NY, Larry Johnson of WV, Richard (Martha) Johnson of AZ and Anne (Mike) Minnick of WV. Elilzabeth is also survived by her stepchildren.
Following the death of her first husband, Betty married Francis “Duke” DuCoin and was embraced by the “DuCoin Clan:” Phyllis (James) Wills of NJ, E. Carol (James) Moan of NJ, Francis John (Mary Jane) DuCoin of FL, Florence (Steven) Ross of CA, David (Dorothy) DuCoin of NJ, Edward (Michele) DuCoin of NJ.
Early on George and Betty were active in the First Baptist Church of Collingswood, NJ, were Boy Scout leaders, enjoyed Johnson family reunions, the Jersey shore, and cross-country travel in their motor home. She also enjoyed growing plants and her hummingbird feeders.
Later Betty enjoyed DuCoin family gatherings, the family ski trip, and the “girls weekend” at Ocean City, NJ.
She worked in doctors’ offices of Dr. Ryan, Dr. Onofrio, Drs. Herron, Malcarney and Garra for may years as well as the pharmacy at Bethesda Memorial Hospital in Boynton Beach Florida.
She has loved 27 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
Betty’s priority was always both her families. She wrote: “I love each of you all as my sons and daughters. “In law” has never been in my vocabulary (she always preferred “daughter-in-love”). Thank you for all my Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Mom, Nana, Betty, Grandmom Betty, Betty the Great, or whatever title I am to you – I love you all!”
