Edward Marc Dubrey

March 30, 1967 — September 4, 2023

Edward Marc DuBrey was born on March 30th, 1967, in Philadelphia, PA to Edward Michael Dubrey and Julietta Stocker (Levin). He was affectionately known to family and friends as “Marc” or “Chug-a mug, or Chug” for short.

Marc, a very funny, smart, and witty child, lived his early life in the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia. He was very athletic and loved sports since he was a small child. He played baseball and football and was coached by his father until his teens. He loved music and had the most diverse musical taste. He loved everything from classic Hip Hop and Jazz to Reggae and R&B. Marc also loved cars both vintage and new. His interest in cars stemmed from his older brother, Gary.

After graduating from Martin Luther King High School in 1985, Marc went on to serve our country by joining the Navy. While in the Navy, Marc traveled to several different countries and was able to experience different cultures and ways of life. He worked as a Dental Assistant while in the Navy. Marc was stationed in Long Beach, California where he met and wed his wife, Crystal Cooke. Crystal and Marc had an instant connection and quickly married, March 1, 1991.

From this union, Kai Victoria DuBrey was born. Kai’s birth blended Marc, Crystal, and Lyndon (Marc’s stepson) as a family. Marc and Crystal bought their home together in Rialto, California. Sadly, Crystal passed away on July 11, 2015. The next year, Marc’s granddaughter, Kali Hickman was born on July 20, 2016. Kali quickly became the apple of Marc’s eye. Marc was a great father to Kai and grandfather to Kali. He loved Kai fiercely. Marc supported her and cheered her on in all her endeavors. This very same love and support was shared with his granddaughter, Kali. He thoroughly enjoyed being a “Pop-pop” and spending time with his “grandbaby”.

While still living in California, Marc began his professional career as a Sheriff Deputy at Riverside County Correctional Department in the early 1990s. Marc and Crystal bought a home together in Rialto, California until the late 1990s when Marc moved his family back to his hometown of Philadelphia.

Once in Philadelphia, Marc began his new career as a Behavioral Specialist for troubled youth. He spent many years in this field mentoring and making a positive impact guiding young men and women.

On December 28, 2016, Marc and Cheryl Horton were introduced and their attraction was immediate. They became inseparable and shared a special bond. Their love could be seen and felt by everyone around them. They enjoyed spending time with family and friends, attending music concerts or just relaxing at home watching football and historical documentaries.

Marc was a very family-oriented man that loved his family fiercely especially his mother, daughter, grand-daughter, and fiancé. He would do anything for his special ladies.

Marc was always very funny and would light up the room with his jokes and presence. Although he only had one daughter, he was a great mentor and father figure to everyone he encountered. He loved to give advice and support to everyone.

Marc passed away on September 4th, 2023 and left to cherish his precious memories are his mother, Julietta Levin; daughter, Kai DuBrey (Darnell Hickman) and stepson, Lyndon (Maria) Marshall; grandchildren, Kali Hickman and Zaire Marshall; his beloved fiancé, Cheryl Horton; best friends: Todd Mitchell, Marc Wilson, Kenny Brown, Aaron Deeden, and Darren Johnson; and many cousins, aunts, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Crystal A. DuBrey, his father Edward M. DuBrey and his brother Gary M. DuBrey.
