Doris S. Thompson, age 92, passed away on August 1, 2024. She was born to the late George and Margaret (nee Price) Sproul in Clementon, NJ. Doris loved the outdoors, waterfalls, wildlife and especially birds. Her passion for the past twenty years has been making crosses out of yarn and inserting handwritten prayers into the pocket of the cross. One of her best friends, Barbara Sharp, has a son who is a dedicated doctor of Beyond Borders. Her son was instrumental in getting Doris’ crosses overseas to poor countries all over the world, including Bosnia and Africa. She continued making these crosses up until March of this year until her illness prevented her from doing her charitable passion. Even until the time before she peacefully passed, she would love to tell everyone about her crosses and offer one to all those caretakers that cared for her daily.
Doris is predeceased by husband, Wilbur E. Thompson; brothers, George, Donald, and William Sproul; and sisters, Marie Sheppard, Eva Deck, Bobbie Daily, and Margaret Daily.
She is survived by her children, Roberta Jean Bateman (Greg, Sr.), John B. Thompson (Jane), and Gary W. Thompson (Denise); sister, Roberta Jean Killroy; and eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by dear friends from kindergarten, Pat Warwick and Barbara Sharp.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her graveside service on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, located at 500 Delsea Dr., Sewell, NJ 08080.
