David E. Thomas, Jr.

David E Thomas Jr, age 78 passed away at Samaritan Hospice of Mount Holly on Tuesday October 19, 2021. Born in Mount Holly, he lived in Medford and Tabernacle before settling down in Southampton, NJ David joined the Navy and served aboard the USS Yorktown. He later went on to become a Machinist, a career that would enable him to provide for his family. Loving husband to Irene C (Wells) Thomas, he had two sons; Dave E Thomas (Lois) and Brian K Thomas (Michele); four grandchildren; Andrew, Joshua, Jarett and Anna; and one great grandson; Weston. He also leaves behind his sidekick dog, Lucky. Predeceased by his parents David and Pearl Thomas, David also had four sisters; Patsy Bakely, Jessie Hunley, Barbara (Randy) Higgenbothem and Joann Long; as well as several nieces and nephews. David enjoyed spending time in the woods and was an avid hunter. He also was the President of Pinelands Umpire Association where he worked with many young ball players for over 30 years. At a young age David was referred to as Jitterbug, a nickname that was handed down to his oldest grandson Andy. He passed his love of the military onto his son Brian and grandson Joshua. And his son Dave worked alongside his father for many years, carrying on the Machinist trade to which his father introduced him. Internment will take place at Brigadier William C Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in North Hanover, NJ. On Friday October 29, 2021. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery precisely at 10:45am for a 11:00am service.
