Darlene A. Simpson

February 4, 1957 — April 27, 2021

Darlene A. Simpson (nee Ackley) age 64, passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. Beloved wife of Walter (Rusty) Simpson of Atco, NJ and loving mother of Ryan Simpson of Atco, NJ and Crystal Simpson (Vince Scipione) of Pine Hill, NJ. Proud Grandmother of Liliana and Laci Scipione. She is also survived by her mother Blanche (Tootsie) Ackley (nee Niebish), sister Sharon Dunn, brothers Martin Ackley and John Ackley (Sue) along with many loving nieces, nephews, family, and friends. She is predeceased by her father, Martin A. Ackley, Jr. Darlene was born on February 4, 1957 in Philadelphia, PA. As a young girl, she moved to Berlin, NJ. She married her devoted husband Walter (Rusty) Simpson in 1978 and ended up raising their family in Berlin. Darlene always had a smile. She loved to dance, to watch the Philadelphia Flyers and Eagles. She loved music and she always kept the oldies station on the radio in her kitchen. She loved to cook and care for her family. They were her world. The core of her happiness was the beach. Specifically, Cape May Beach. Her parents and grandparents had homes there. She spent every summer living at the beach even as she got older with her own family. She was even the self-proclaimed “Mayor of Cape May Beach” as most would agree. Darlene battled brain cancer, among many other illness for over 25 years. Her husband Rusty took care of her every day of those 25 years with help from their children. She was a true warrior, a survivor, and displayed nothing less than unrelenting courage and strength. She will always be remembered for her loving, giving, comforting soul. Her happiness was contagious. Family and friends are welcome to gather for a viewing on Sunday, May 2, 2021 at the LeRoy P. Wooster Funeral Home & Crematory in Atco, NJ from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. A celebration of life will start at 2:00pm. Cremation will be held privately.
