Charles H. Smith, “Chalie” or “Pop”, age 79 years of W. Berlin, NJ passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022. Chalie is survived by his wife Judy (nee Wurst), his children Chuck Smith (Sandy), Tracey Crowthers (Dennis), and Chris Smith (Kim). He is also survived by his doting grandchildren, Jessi Whitzer (Dan), Jolie Smith, Christopher Smith, and his great grandchild, Posie Whitzer. He is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Catherine, and his two sisters, Ann Williams and Millie Smith. Charlie worked at Trio Tire for many years before going to the Mount Laurel Board of Education, where he was beloved by all. Charlie had many passions in life. He spent his days with his faithful companion, his dog Dollie, by his side taking at least two walks a day and tending to his garden. His countless bird houses and feeders were never empty, as his yard has become a popular hang out for all species of birds and other wildlife in the neighborhood, just as he wanted. If he wasn’t reading a history book or making jokes with his neighbors, you could find him trying a new cake recipe and bringing it to his friends and family to try. He enjoyed playing pool and chess, but his biggest love in life was watching his team the Steelers, whom he cheered for win or lose, rain or shine. Charlie made you smile, laugh, and feel like you were one of the most important people he met each and every day. He will be missed greatly and remain close in our hearts. His viewing will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the LeRoy P. Wooster Funeral and Crematory, 441 White Horse Pike, Atco, NJ. Funeral services will begin at 12:00pm. Interment will be private. A livestream of the service will be available to view via this link Livestream Link or by clicking on the tribute wall tab. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Voorhees Animal Orphanage, 419 Cooper Rd., Voorhees, NJ 08043 or at vaonj.org. Masks are to be worn while at the viewing and funeral.
