Andrew H. Pack, age 86 of Berlin, NJ and formerly of South Orange, NJ, passed away on May 6, 2023. He
was born and raised in West Virginia to the late Jessie and Edna (nee Carr) Pack. Andrew proudly served
in the US Air Force during Vietnam. He loved every aspect of his time in the Air Force, especially
traveling to various parts of the US and other countries. Even though his time in the Air Force came to
an end with an Honorable Discharge, the discipline and pride never left. Andrew strived to always do his
best, no matter how big or small the endeavor. After the Air Force, Andrew studied at Bluefield State
University and Kean University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in education. After graduating
from Kean University, he went on to teach at Bergen Street School in Newark for 5 years, where he met
the love of his life, Yvonne. Andrew was a dedicated teacher both in and out of the classroom, ultimately
teaching for 38 years retiring from East Orange School District. He had a vast knowledge of many, many
topics and loved to share his passion and knowledge with others. Andrew was a man devoted to his faith
and was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Cherry Hill, NJ.
An avid bowler, Andrew appeared in an ad for active senior citizens that aired on TV as well as in print in
both magazines and newspapers, which he was very proud of. Andrew played football in high school,
college, and the Air Force. His neighbors would light heartedly tease Andrew for keeping his car in
pristine condition, often washing his car daily, and “twice on Sunday” as he proclaimed. He was always
well dressed and dapper, no matter the occasion, and even if the occasion was simply just being at
home. Andrew loved jazz music, and embarked on a yearly journey to Montreal, Canada with his wife to
attend the jazz festival. He and Yvonne also took many day trips to NYC, enjoying Broadway shows,
Rockefeller Center, and Radio City Music Hall. He cherished being a father and grandfather, and adored
spending time with his family. When Andrew’s son was growing up, he found a passion for soccer.
Andrew didn’t know much about the game, but made it his mission to learn all that he could by
watching matches on TV, and taking back what he learned to his son. Because of this, Andrew, Jr.
became a very successful soccer player. This is just one of many examples of Andrew going above and
beyond to give his all for someone he loved, and this is how time and time again, Andrew made a
positive and lasting impact on many people. He will be remembered for his gentle, patient spirit; as well
as the love he had for everyone that came into his life. Andrew will be deeply missed and forever
remembered for all the positive he brought into this world.
Andrew is predeceased by his parents, Jessie and Edna Pack and siblings, Luke Pack and David Pack.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Yvonne M. Pack (nee Mills); children, Andrew H. Pack, Jr.
(Miya) and Timothy Foster (Tammy); grandchildren, Carter Pack, Bobby Lee, Nikki Lee, Kimberly Lee, and
Tonya Essex; siblings, Louise Belle, Jessie Pack, John Pack, and Donald Pack; and several great
grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
