Al Garrett age 80yrs. passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family on June 13, 2023, after a hard fought battle.
He was born to the late Anna Garrett (nee Norbury) and Leonard Garrett in Philadelphia PA. They moved to Berlin Borough when he was around the age of 10. It was there that he made lifelong friendships. He married Ida Iuliucci of Waterford on November 9, 1968. They moved to Waterford in June 1971 and have lived there ever since.
Al was an incredible, all-around athlete, setting numerous records at his high school. In 1989 he was inducted into the athletic hall of fame by Lower Camden County High School for baseball, football and track. He was All-Conference in baseball, track and football. He was MVP in all three sports. In 1961 he ran 100-yard dash in 9.9 seconds.
He enlisted in the in the United States Marine Corps and served his country from 1964 to 1968, rising to the rank of Sergeant. His experiences as a Marine created a fearlessness within him which he brought home and carried throughout the rest of his life.
Known as the “The Legend” to his Russell Pic II family, he was never without a witty comeback. Al loved nothing more than a good golf game, scaring the pants off his family members, and a cold beer.
He will be remembered for his wit and dry sense of humor, for being a straight shooter, a practical joker, a proud Marine and a tough, fearless guy.
He is survived by wife of 54 years Ida (nee Iuliucci), son Brian, daughter Renee, and granddaughter Reese. He is loved and will be dearly missed by countless family and friends.
