Alexander Ty Karivalis

March 16, 1994 — October 1, 2024

ALEXANDER (ALEX) TY KARIVALIS was born on March, 16 1994 to his parents, Nicholas J. and Shirley Karivalis (nee Grasso).

Alexander died suddenly at his home in Elm, New Jersey on October 1, 2024, lost to drug addiction. Alex was 30 years of age. Alex was a proud graduate of Saint Joseph High School class of 2012 in Hammonton and a lettered swimmer at St. Augustine Preparatory School. In high school, Alex captained the mock trial team, a pursuit he continued into his undergraduate years. He was concurrently captain of the Model UN Club, President of the Global Studies Department and Editor in Chief of the Yearbook Club. Alex clerked at his mother’s law firm in Hammonton, the Law Offices of Shirley Grasso. Alex matriculated to the George Washington University in Washington D.C with a Presidential Scholarship. He practiced mock trial three hours per day, six days per week. With an untiring work ethic, Alex quoted Benjamin Franklin in his college admission essays, “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” Alex interned for Congressman William (Bill) Posey, the American businessman and politician serving as a prominent member of the Republican party and Florida’s eighth congressional district. Alex was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon social fraternity. In 2014, Alex was awarded a scholarship to trace Alexander the Great’s years as emperor and investigate contradicting evidence from different primary sources in conjunction with the university’s history department. Alex graduated with a dual degree from George Washington University and the London School of Economics in Political Science and Economics. Upon receiving his undergraduate degree in 2016, Alex moved to New York City to pursue a career in finance, where Alex became a top salesman, consistently exceeding expectations and sales quotas. Alex worked at prestigious financial institutions including AXA S.A., Rapid Ratings and Dow Jones Financial, obtaining series 7 and 63 licenses as a General Securities Representative. Alex owned two start-up companies including Punchey, Inc. and First Rate Processing, LLC. In 2022, Alex enrolled in George Washington University’s law school class of 2025 after scoring in the 99th percentile of the Law School Admission Test (LSAT). Alex’s dream was to help people with disabilities and contribute to the field of law. He sought an education grounded in the fullness of the human experience so that he could play a meaningful role in the implementation of public policy. Alex was a compassionate comedian to all that knew him, an animal lover and an avid video gamer.

Alex enjoyed traveling, art, and food. Alex’s travels included the Caribbean, Montauk (Long Island), England, Italy, the Netherlands and Greece.
