Ajay Bhakta was born on August 1st, 1939 in Serampore, India. He studied at Bengal Engineering College in Calcutta, Imperial College of Science and Technology in London, and Drexel University in Philadelphia. He worked for many years as a civil/structural engineer, and loved what he did. He was fiercely independent and followed his own path in life. An avid traveler, he explored Europe with friends and as a newlywed, and in America he took his family on trips all over the country. He could easily strike up a conversation with a stranger and liked to make friends wherever he went. You could recognize him by his jolly laugh, which exuded his joy for life. He passed away peacefully during the early morning of January 4th, 2021 at the age of 81. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife Sunanda, son Samir, and daughter Mousumi; his brothers Benoy and Sukumar and their families; and the families of his deceased brother Harendra and sisters Tara, Soruju, and Kananbala. A viewing will be held on Friday, January 8, 2021 following a short family puja from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm at the LeRoy P. Wooster Funeral Home and Crematory, 441 White Horse Pike, Atco, NJ.
