Adi Aleti

Adi Narayana Aleti, 86, of Atco, NJ, passed away at 10:31 pm on Thursday, May 11, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born on July 11, 1936 in Rajamahendravaram, Andhra Pradesh, India, son of the late Simhadri and Lakshmamma Aleti.


He was a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharaghpur, and received his PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. Though his professional career concluded with the New Jersey Department of Transportation, Adi had a storied journey which included attending medical school and residency, founding several startup businesses, writing an adventure novel in his 80s and holding professorship positions in various Engineering departments throughout the country and at IIT, Kanpur.


Adi served as a role model, cheerleader and father to his three children, of whom he was especially fond and proud. He loved his family deeply and was married to the love of his life, Lakshmi Aleti, for 63 years. Adi was thrilled by traveling the world, making frequent trips throughout Europe and Asia, and to Dallas, Texas to visit family. Adi was also a member of the Sri Sathya Sai Baba Center in Medford, NJ for 38 years and founding member that helped construct its Sarva Dharma Center in Howell, NJ. Adi was most proud of the accomplishments and activities of his nine grandchildren.


Adi is survived by his wife, Lakshmi Aleti; three children, Padma (Chakravarthy Doddi) Aleti, Dr. Swati (Jeevan) Johnson, Sasank (Michelle Reyes) Aleti; and nine grandchildren, Sai, Avinash, Nandini, Aasha, Leela, Shaalini, Mira, Lina and Kiran.

Visitation is from 4:30 to 6 P.M. on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at LeRoy P. Wooster Funeral Home (441 White Horse Pike, Atco, NJ 08004). A celebration of life and remembrance of Adi's life will be held on Sunday, May 21, from 11am-2:30pm at Indian Cultural Center of South Jersey, 800 Route 73, Marlton, NJ 08053 .
