Ferdinand “Fred” Mase, age 85, of Sicklerville, NJ, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2020. The beloved father of daughter, Dawn Youngkin and son, Ferdinand Mase and his fiance, Sharon Tanner. A proud and boastful “Poppop” of Rose, Daisy, Ferdinand III, Nicole, Cosmo, Samantha, and D’Angelo; great-grandfather of Mauricio, Angelina, and Abigail. Dear brother of Maryann “Sis” Hallowell, her husband Rundell, the late Nicholas Mase Jr. and his wife Janet. He is also survived by and will be sadly missed by his lifelong friend, Gloria McConnell and his daughter-in-law Paula Raroha Fred was born in Philadelphia, PA, and was a longtime South Jersey resident, residing primarily in Sicklerville. He was a Winslow Township trustee and council-member. He proudly served in the United States Army. Mr. Mase owned a construction company and managed Vi-Concrete in Atco for many years. Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was an avid gardener. Everything Fred touched grew and flourished especially his basil, behemoth sunflowers, and jersey tomato plants. He used his homegrown produce to create many amazing meals for his family. He had a tenacity for life that went unmatched and never let age or illness stand in his way. He loved the casino and playing 500 Rummy with his grandchildren. He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, particularly the wrestling matches of Ferdinand III. His daily phone calls, his sneaky sarcasm and his loving smile will be dearly missed. Cremation will be held privately. In lieu of flowers or donations, please see the attached recipe for Italian meatballs and make a nice meal for your family. Serve meatballs over a bowl of polenta and a scoop of red (Jersey Fresh) tomato sauce. Top with Locatelli cheese. “If the polenta has clumps in it, you’ve done something wrong.” – Poppop "Italian Meatballs" Ground meat, beef and Pork Breadcrumbs, Just enough 2 eggs Handful of fresh parsley Salt & pepper All the garlic in the house Locatelli cheese NO ONIONS Must Fry- never bake in the oven.
